PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE - By Roland Kotcamp This is the time of year when many of our members head north for the summer. I want to wish them a safe trip and best wishes for a wonderful summer. We look forward to seeing everyone when they return in the fall. The only item remaining to complete construction of the maintenance buildings is the installation of overhead doors. Dick Roberts has been receiving bids for the purchase of the overhead doors and installation. We should be awarding the contract in the next few weeks. I’ve received many compliments about the Club’s new sign in front of the Clubhouse. Again I want to extend appreciation to Roger Sayers and the membership committee for taking on this task. Roger and the committee were the driving force behind having a sign installed. Thanks to Art Schaper for the great job he did obtaining the materials; then building and assembling the parts. He was assisted by Jim Melton and Skip Weber. Art has the sign designed so we can easily remove for protection during threatening weather. Thanks to Don and Evy Hunt for the donation of a desk top computer in the business office. This computer replaces the second computer in the business office which is used by Board members. We were beginning to have many problems with the old computer. Don set up the computer and handled the transfer of files. Many thanks to Don and Evy for this much needed piece of equipment. The timing was perfect. The water restrictions have been eased somewhat so we’re hopeful the additional watering will help alleviate some of the browning we are experiencing. You may begin to see some of the fairways narrowing. This is just part of the summer maintenance plan for mowing, fertilization and watering. All our maintenance staffs’ efforts to enhance and repair the Club’s irrigation system are starting to pay off. The amount of water dispersed and the area covered has improved dramatically. The improvement is best evidenced by a recent call Josh Anderson, Golf Course Superintendent received. One of the club’s neighbors by the 18th fairway called to let us know our watering was getting into his pool and messing up the pool’s chemistry. When Dick Roberts and Josh investigated they found the sprinkler head was actually spraying water over the roof!! I hope you’ve had an opportunity to pick up a copy of the 2008 Membership Directory that is available to the members in the Business office. We do not plan to mail out directories. Again I want to thank our Secretary Ruth Morgan for the wonderful job she did organizing the changes, which were major, and producing the Roster. Also, please take the time to see some of the major social events that are listed in the Directory our Director of Social Activities has planned so you can mark your calendars and be ready to participate. Contact Shirley if you have any questions about the social activities planned. Updated Bylaw booklets are also available in the business office. Welcome back Vivian. We are all pleased to see Vivian back following her successful knee surgery. Again many thanks to Pat Szekely for handling the business office duties during Vivian’s recovery period following knee surgery. Pat has agreed to help us with some planned changes when see returns in the fall. What a great time we had at the Club’s 2007 – 2008 awards night dinner. Thanks to Mike Sliter, Director of Golf Activities for all his efforts putting the evening’s event together. The music was great. How about those table decorations? Thanks to Shirley Heard, Clubhouse Director; Rachelle, Head Waitress; and Chef David for all their efforts to make this such a fun time and a great evening of CELEBRATION. And finally thanks to all the winners who make this evening possible. I look forward to seeing everyone back next year and having a packed house to join the celebration. I always look forward to the Club’s award’s night event because we have such a great time and I view this event as the culmination of another great season. Our Tuesday night dinners will start back up in the fall but don’t forget to sign up for the Friday night dinners. Also, look for the sign up sheet for the Memorial Day golf outing. We’re still accepting donations toward replenishing the $2,700 used from the general operating fund toward the purchase of the new royal palms. To date we have replenished $700.00. Also, there are still tee markers and benches available to sponsor. If you are interested, please contact our CFO Frank Merola. Fill your fairway divots, repair ball marks on the greens and AVOID SLOW PLAY – I encourage all our golfing members to always pay attention as to where you are in relation to the group in front of you. Try not to be the reason for slow play. Remember, you tee off at the 1st hole when the group ahead of you is at the 2nd tee, try to keep that same relationship all the way around the golf course. The next Board meeting will be Monday, May 5, 2008, at 8:00 AM. TREASURER’S REPORT – By Pat Kelly The Club’s financial position as of March 31, 2008 was: CASH 539,636 o Reserves 86,700 o Operating 452,950 Year to Date Net Income: $90,533 YTD Comparison 2007: $53,571 Year to Date Net Income is $1,500 over budget; Golf Course Income is $11,500 higher than 2007 and $2,000 over budget; Year to Date Clubhouse Income is $21,200 higher than 2007 and $7,500 over budget. Expenses are running over budget but some of the expense is attributable to timing differences. Thus, we anticipate a more balanced budget as we move further into the year. Regarding the budget, the Board of Directors and our managers are focused on maintaining a positive position during our slower season. In keeping with this effort, we have eliminated the prior practice of “half price” member cart fees from June through August. Our cart rental lease runs from January through December and we receive no reduction in lease payments during the off season. In the past, we have often had to offset lease expense with prior period revenues, not a good budgeting scenario. By maintaining a fixed cart rental rate from January through December, the Board anticipates being able to better match cart rental revenue and expense. We have also revisited our summer golf rates. As an accommodation to members who have family and friends visiting during the off season, we will have a fixed across the board “golf with cart rate” for the summer season. All non-member golfers, including special card holders, family, guests and reciprocals may play 9 or 18 holes at any time of day for the fixed rate of $17 during the months of May through September. Open golf rates are slightly higher and will be posted at the desk. We encourage all of our summer residents to entertain their friends and family and keep the WCCC spirit alive until all of “the WCCC family” are together again in the fall. A happy, healthy, safe summer to all! MEMBERSHIP - By Roger Sayers New Members Roger and Margaret Ulshafer have joined us as golfing members. Roger was the Fire Chief in We have received a number of favorable comments about our new Club Sign. Your Membership Committee members are pleased with the finished product and have dedicated it to the memory of Ken Carmignani. Ken left an indelible impression on the Membership Committee, contributing enormously to our recent successes. A short dedication ceremony was held where a plate honoring Ken’s memory, was attached to the sign. It has been brought to our attention that there are non-members playing cards and other games at the Club on a regular basis. We ask those concerned to abide by the Club rule as outlined in the recent 2008 Roster: “A non-member/guest may not participate more than twice in one calendar year in Club social activities such as line dance, cards or other games.” GOLF ACTIVITIES – By Mike Sliter SHOOT OUT, 27 HOLE AND 54 HOLE CHAMPIONSHIPS: The tournament committee has submitted the following dates for next season’s tournaments. COLLARS/APRONS: We are in the process of growing a collar (aka: apron) on our greens. The purpose of this is to protect those areas during the summer months and allow that part of the green to flourish. If your ball is sitting on the collar, you are NOT on the green and therefore, cannot mark your ball and clean it. LOCKERS: We will soon be renovating the locker room that is located in the cart barn. If you have any items stored in the locker room, please remove them as we will need to get into every locker to paint. RALLY FOR THE CURE – By Karen Rogers As your Rally Ambassador for 2008, I would like to thank everyone who participated and supported this great cause. The WCCC men joined us this year along with several guests to bring our play to 66 golfers. Prizes for the raffle tickets were donated by the following local businesses: Embarq (thanks to Marcie Roberts), Pole Kat Golf, Lumpy’s, Merrill Lynch, Pressures, Mary Grochman and her neighbor, and Golf Guys. A total of 17 holes were sponsored either in Memory of or in Honor of family members and/or friends. A special thanks to Glenna Halliburton for all the computer work. Trish Challen won a pair of Etonic golf shoes for closest to the pin for ladies on hole #16; and Dave Grochmal won an Adams 3-wood for men’s closest to the pin on hole #8. We will be sending Rally for the Cure a check for $1,959 – another huge first for us. LEGA NEWS – By Jean Teegarden

There are other landscaping activities planned, so if you are interested in helping contact Mary Grochmal. The 2008 Membership Directory will be available to the members in the Business office during the first week of April. We do not plan to mail out directories. There was a lot of time and effort put into the production of the directory this year due to the many changes in members and adding the rules section and other information. Many thanks to Ruth Morgan and Pat Szekely for all their efforts organizing, proof reading and producing the 2008 directory. You will find in the directory some of the major social activities that Shirley Heard has planned for the period April 2008 – March 2009. Contact Shirley if you have any questions about the social activities planned The two maintenance buildings have been erected. A HUGE thank you to Tom Doyle for his assistance with finding an erection contractor to replace the contractor that went out of business. If you missed the St. Patrick’s Day’s party you missed another fun-filled evening with great food and entertainment. There were over 100 in attendance. Shirley Heard and the staff did a great job with decorations. Look for the sign up sheet for awards night. Don’t forget to sign up for the Tuesday and Friday night dinners and the last Fun day (Sadie Hawkins) and Twilight golf events of the season. Congratulations to this year’s 54 hole tournament winners Barbara Mays and Dave Grochmal. Thank you to Director, Mike Sliter for all his efforts with organizing this year’s event.
